The Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team is backing Nissan GT Academy graduate Jann Mardernborough by placing him with Arden in the GP3 Series this year.
Mardernborough won Nissan’s GT Academy in 2011; the GT Academy is a racing video game competition with its winner trained and enrolled as a professional racing driver in preparation for a major racing championship or event.
The 22-year-old Briton competed in several endurance racing events including the 24 Hours of Dubai and Blancpain Endurance Series; he also raced single seaters in Formula 3 and Toyota Racing Series.
“I feel ready for GP3, I’ve prepared well and I have all the right people around me to help my development so I can fully focus on my racing.” said Mardenborough.
“I haven’t raced the GP3 car yet. But going on initial testing, I prefer the GP3 car to an F3 car. The power is very addictive!
“This season is my opportunity to impress more people in the sport who make the decisions on who makes it into F1 and who doesn’t and I’m going to give it my best shot.”
