March 16, 2015 – Red Bull Racing’s advisor Helmut Marko revealed that the Austrian outfit could pull out of Formula 1, claiming that the sport’s new rules are “not understandable, much too complicated, and too expensive.”
Red Bull endured a tough weekend in the opening round of the 2015 season in Australia, with Daniel Ricciardo coming home in sixth place after struggling for pace throughout the race, while team-mate Daniil Kvyat’s car failed to start the race.
Marko said that Red Bull might contemplate a Formula 1 exit if it is dissatisfied with the way things are going.
“We will evaluate the situation again [in the summer] as every year and look into costs and revenues. If we are totally dissatisfied we could contemplate an F1 exit. Yes, the danger is there that Mr. Mateschitz loses his passion for F1.” Marko told Austrian media in Melbourne.
“These power units are the wrong solution for F1, and we would say this even if [Red Bull supplier] Renault were in the lead,” he added.
