Revamped Audi Q5 Launched with New ICE Engines

Discover the all-new Audi Q5 with advanced ICE engines, innovative technology, and cutting-edge features designed to keep combustion engines relevant in the 2030s.

Audi Q5: Embracing the Future with a New ICE Model

The Audi Q5 has long been a cornerstone in Audi’s lineup, celebrated for its popularity and significant contribution to the brand’s success. As one of Europe’s top mid-size SUVs since its debut 15 years ago, the launch of the third-generation Q5 carries high expectations.

Audi is optimistic about the Q5’s ability to surpass its predecessor, thanks to substantial investment in its development. The new Q5 is built on Audi’s state-of-the-art Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, featuring an advanced infotainment system and a fresh lineup of petrol and diesel engines.

In an era where the 2035 EU ban on combustion engines is fast approaching, Audi’s decision to continue developing ICE-powered vehicles might seem daring. However, recognizing the fluctuating demand for electric vehicles, Audi has strategically revised its product roadmap. The brand is betting on the sustained relevance of petrol and diesel engines into the 2030s, with the new Q5 poised to meet this market demand.

What Powers the New Audi Q5?

The new Audi Q5 is equipped with Audi’s 48-volt MHEV Plus technology, similar to the Audi A5. This system includes a 1.76kWh battery and two electric motors, one integrated with the engine and another connected to the gearbox. This setup allows the Q5 to run on electric power at low speeds and assists in fuel efficiency at higher speeds, reducing CO2 emissions without sacrificing space.

The Q5 offers three engine options: two petrol and one diesel. The entry-level 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine delivers 201bhp and 251lb ft of torque, with front-wheel drive as standard. For those seeking more power, the 3.0-liter V6 engine produces 362bhp and 406lb ft of torque, available exclusively in the sporty SQ5 model with quattro all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension.

Surprisingly, Audi has retained a diesel option, an enhanced version of the Volkswagen Group’s EA288 engine. With 201bhp and 295 lb ft of torque, this engine is tailored for long-distance drivers who value diesel’s fuel efficiency. The Q5’s diesel model comes standard with all-wheel drive.

In 2025, Audi plans to introduce two plug-in hybrid variants of the Q5. Both will utilize the 2.0-liter petrol engine paired with a larger battery and more powerful electric motors, offering outputs of 295bhp and 335bhp, respectively. These hybrids will be capable of over 62 miles on electric power alone, with minimal impact on storage space due to the underfloor battery placement.

Inside the New Audi Q5

The interior of the new Q5 represents a significant evolution. The most noticeable update is the all-new infotainment system, featuring an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.5-inch central screen, both housed under a single curved glass panel. This system is notably faster than its predecessor, though it does sacrifice physical climate controls in favor of a touchscreen interface with a fixed climate bar.

For those willing to splurge, Audi offers an additional screen for the front passenger, which can assist the driver or serve as an entertainment system with video streaming capabilities. Thanks to a polarizing filter, the screen can be used while the car is in motion without distracting the driver.

The Q5’s cabin is also highly adaptable, with a sliding rear bench to balance boot space and legroom, and clever storage solutions like a parcel shelf slot under the boot floor. The vehicle is equipped with four USB-C ports, with optional upgrades to support laptop charging, along with multiple storage compartments and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Innovative Engineering in the Audi Q5

Audi has invested considerable effort into enhancing the Q5’s aerodynamics, improving both fuel efficiency and cabin quietness. The SUV features aerodynamic panels under the chassis, wheels, and wheel arches to reduce drag.

The Q5 also boasts advanced lighting technology, with customizable OLED daytime running lights and rear lamps. Drivers can select from eight distinct lighting signatures, adding a personal touch to their vehicle.

Pricing and Availability

While UK pricing is yet to be confirmed, European prices for the new Audi Q5 start at €52,300 for the base petrol model and €57,100 for the entry-level diesel. The top-tier SQ5 will be priced at €82,900. Audi will begin taking orders in late 2024, with the first deliveries expected in early 2025.

This all-new Audi Q5, with its innovative features and robust engine options, is set to redefine expectations for mid-size SUVs, staying relevant in a rapidly changing automotive landscape.
