Tipped to win the front-wheel drive category on Sunday, Robert didn’t disappoint, as he clinched a straight-forward victory. This season, he is in for a full program and is set to prove himself. Check out what he had to say after the race.
First of all Robert, Congratulations on your win! Do you think the pre-season preparations helped you today? Or is it a combination of other things?
We knew the car was great when we got it, it had suspension problems at first but we managed to fix it prior to this race.
As you know, Arsoun is a bit tricky, you have bumps on the early part of the track, but everything panned out at the end, this is our first race as well as our first Front-wheel drive win. I don’t think we could’ve wished for a better result.
Do you believe other upcoming tracks are tougher/easier? And what do you think about your competitors today?
The competitors were closer last year, unlike this year, they were farther away.
Did they fall behind or did you improve?
I got used to the car of course; all the teams have done a lot of work, they have all improved, so it’s not just us, but it was mainly because I familiarized myself with the car which was actually pretty hard to drive. However, the more you drive it, the more you grow accustomed to it.
Do you think the Renault will be of much more benefit to you during the Rally instead of the Hill Climb? Will you be able to extract more performance out of it?
Yes, of course, of course. The Mitsubishi Evolutions take a lot of risk during Hill Climb events because of the high torque in their engines, but in the course of a 15-stage Rally, consistency is needed; I think I’ll be a lot closer throughout the Rally.
