Rodolphe Asmar crowned MERC-2 champion in Cyprus

October 9, 2016 – Lebanese rally driver Rodolphe Asmar has been crowned the MERC-2 champion after claiming victory in the MERC-2/Group N category at this weekend’s Cyprus Rally alongside co-driver Joseph Matar.

Rodolphe took the championship lead after he finished Rally of Lebanon in 2nd place in Group N and went into the fifth and final round of the Middle East Rally Championship, Cyprus Rally, with a 7-point advantage over his main title rival Abdullah Al Kuwari.

He and co-driver Joseph Matar enjoyed trouble-free running throughout the 3-day event in Cyprus to seal the class victory ahead of Roger Feghali/Ziad Chehab and Rashed Al Naimi/Nicolas Arena who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in Group N, while Abdullah Al Kuwari ended up 4th.

The 20-year-old has had a dream debut in the Middle East Rally Championship this year, climbing on the podium in Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon and Cyprus on his way to becoming the youngest MERC-2 champion.

The MERC-2 title victory is Rodolphe’s second major achievement in 2016 following his Lebanese Hill Climb Championship Group N title success back in August.
