George Russell dominated the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix for Mercedes, converting his pole position into a commanding victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. From lights-out he held the lead unchallenged, and by the finish he had secured a clear gap ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Meanwhile his consistent rivals at McLaren sealed the Teams’ Championship thanks to their strong combined result.
Russell pulled away early and built a solid timedistance lead, while behind him early drama unfolded when higher-placed runners Norris and Oscar Piastri tangled during a fierce intra-team duel. Piastri voiced frustration over his team-mate’s bold move, calling it “not very team like,” after Norris clipped both his teammate’s car and Verstappen’s. The incident did not draw a penalty, but it did stir tension in the pits.
In the closing stages, Verstappen defended resolutely to finish second, denying Norris the jump to the podium’s second step. Norris settled for third and Piastri followed in fourth, a standing more than enough for McLaren to lock in the championship title for a second year running. Elsewhere from the front pack, Kimi Antonelli impressed in his debut Singapore start to claim fifth, with Charles Leclerc and the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton rounding out strong finishes for their teams. Hamilton, however, dropped a position after a penalty for exceeding track limits post-race.
With all 20 cars making the finish and minimal retirements, the race showcased both strategic pit-stop plays and on-track pressure under the floodlit Singapore night. Russell’s victory marked his second of the season and the fifth of his Formula 1 career, a statement of performance for both driver and team. As F1 heads next to the United States, attention will shift to how McLaren builds on this momentum and whether Mercedes can respond from the front again.
