Double world champion Carlos Sainz believes Citroen should be capable of managing Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier in the same team.
The French firm’s efforts to manage two front-line drivers in Loeb and Ogier has been well chronicled through the season, but the Spaniard, who ended his career in a factory Xsara WRC in 2005, said there was no reason for the troubles.
“In rally teams all the way through history it is normal that the best teams will always have good team-mates,” said Sainz.
“There is nothing new in these situations, look at Toyota, Lancia, Subaru even Citroen in the past – it was always normal to have strong drivers in the same team at the same time.
“For me it is possible to manage two very good drivers and I don’t see why it can’t be done in the future.”
Loeb is tied in the lead of the World Rally Championship, with Ogier just three points behind. Citroen and Ogier have publicly stated their support for Loeb in his pursuit of an eighth consecutive drivers’ title. Ogier’s future at Citroen remains the focus of intense speculation, however.
