After a difficult but positive race at the first round of the 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series in Monza two weeks ago, Team Black Falcon has returned to its home circuit, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, this week for the third round of the 2014 VLN Championship.
The team is entering only one Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 for the four-hour race, with Abdulaziz Turki AlFaisal, Hubert Haupt and Christian Menzel sharing the car.
AlFaisal and Haupt recently took part in the Blancpain Endurance Series opener in Italy and managed to leap from 23rd on the starting grid to finish 14th overall at the end of a tough three-hour race. The pair goes into the third VLN round hungry for more racing action and a great result for the team.
On the other hand, Menzel’s first ever appearance with Team Black Falcon was at the ADAC Qualifying Race 24 Hours of Nürburgring, in which he finished fifth overall. He will contest his second race for the team this weekend and he’s determined to further impress.
In the first round of the 2014 VLN Championship, drivers Jeroen Bleekemolen, Andreas Simonsen and Lance David Arnold finished on the podium after crossing the finish line in second place onboard the same Black Falcon Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. The team was forced to skip the second round due its Blancpain Endurance Series commitment.
Team Black Falcon now aims to build on its successful VLN campaign so far this season by targeting an outright victory this weekend.
Racing starts on Saturday, April 26th, at 8:30 in the morning with a 90-minute Qualifying session. Green flags for the race will be waved at 12:00 before the chequered flag comes out four hours later at 16:00.
