Competition haunts practically every human activity, for example, it’s the very foundation of sport itself. It exists in classrooms, it follows you to your work desk or work field and when it comes to kids and family the competition factor pushes you to seek the “father of the year” title. This is how deep competition goes into our very fabric as human beings; you’d do anything to win!
However these couple of days, I met a creature! A Dazzling creature that pointed me to the fact that competition stops when it comes to taste. True! Tastes do not compete, it is performances that compete. Let me explain to you; scotch drinkers among you are, I’m sure, very familiar with the Johnny Walker brand however how many of you guys are familiar with Cutty Sark, and most likely those who know it do you prefer it over the elegant walking man, right?! Well that’s a simple exploration of the existence of taste.
Where were we? Oh but of course, the creature! They call it the RS5. It’s a car actually, made by one of the most competitive performance expert engineers in a company called Audi. But if you gaze at this car you’d notice that Mr. Engineer in the R&D department in the German company decided to let his guards down after watching the financial news at which he was informed that the petrol is about to run out and man will be going back to steam engines! Yes, it’s back then when Mr. Engineer thought that :”why don’t I create a car that doesn’t just act like one but looks like one too, why can’t I create a car that is not he to win nor to prove itself, just a car!” and indeed the RS5 is nothing from outer space. It’s not as robust as a tank or as pointy as a harpoon. It just looks great for the eyes…in a strange way!
This lady is discrete; it also looks astonishing in red. The looks are as I said comforting to the eyes and it has nothing to prove. Unlike any other sport car running around In the city mall parking shouting out loud and spreading fear among the petrol breeds. However calling the RS5 a lady is worth it! It looks good and elegant but the beauty comes more to your attention when it speaks, and when it does you will fall in love with it.
The RS5 has a 4.2L v8 naturally aspirated engine, a high revving one or mechanically speaking 8300 RPM. This engine delivers 450 BHP at 8250 RPM and 317 Lb-ft at 4000 RPM, music to my ears. The elegance continues with the way the Audi delivers this power to the wheels; the car is a four wheel drive, with a center mechanical differential directing up to 85% of the power to the rear and capable of moving up to 70% of grip to the front. But on normal driving set up the combination is 40% to the front and 60% to the rear. And of course because our Deutsch friends want their creature to be as perfect as the ninth symphony the RS5 has a seven speed dual clutch(S-tronic) automated manual gearbox. And who said ladies can’t be fun?! The RS5 designers went through the trouble of injecting a small amount of fuel into the heated exhaust whenever you change gear creating a canon sound and adding dynamic charisma to the car. The whole mechanical package enables the RS5 to launch from 0-62mph in 4.6seconds not bad for a car that’s this much discrete.
Well the RS5, the lady in a muscular competitive world; in a world where Benz is seeking AMG’s help to make rockets out of their models and where the M3 comes with a competition kit. The Audi is standing between two German lions and still it’s special… I love it!
