To celebrate the Ford Mustang’s 50th anniversary, I decided to pick out my five favorite ‘Stangs of all time. There have been countless special edition Mustangs throughout the years, some of them I don’t even remember, but the five Mustangs below I reminisce vividly. When you’re done reading, make sure you share YOUR top five in the comment box below.
05. 1987 Ford Mustang GT
It’s not the best-looking Mustang, but the 1987 GT brought the thrills and excitement back to the Mustang thanks to the powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine that produced 225 horsepower. It put the Mustang back on the sports car map after the disappointing second-generation.
04. 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
With its 5.8L supercharged aluminum-block V8 that pumps out a whopping 662 horsepower and 855 Nm of torque, the 2014 Shelby GT500 is the most powerful Ford Mustang to date. This sums it all up really.
03. 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R
Only 300 units of this car were ever produced. The 2000 Cobra R had several distinguishing features including a more aggressive exterior compared to the normal 2000 Cobra and a 5.4-liter V8 engine that was rated at 385 horsepower and 522 Nm of torque, although many believe it packed much more than what was originally claimed by Ford.
02. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
The Boss 302 is outstanding, but one does not simply overlook the more outstanding and ultra rare Boss 429 from 1969. Power output was officially rated at 375 horsepower, but the 7.0-liter V8 was widely believed to have more than 500 hp. 859 original Boss 429s were produced.
01. 1964½ Ford Mustang
If it weren’t for the 1964 1/2 Mustang, I wouldn’t be making this list. This is the car that defined the pony car and revolutionized the way we look at American cars. Regardless the power output, the first-generation Mustang is still one of the the most desirable cars in the world. Shelby Mustang, Boss 302 Mustang, Mach 1 Mustang and Saleen Mustang all exist thanks to this particular car.
