The German Divas

Just pick…well I don’t know what to pick!

What is the first thing that comes to your head when I say Switzerland; well it might be a bank or a shiny Rolex. Let’s do it again! What if I told you “painters”, you will immediately think of Picasso or Van Gogh. Some people think of this reflex as a cliché, and say about whoever thinks in such manner that they are boring and lazy people; it’s not the case, and the fact is that such names had their deep impact on our daily lives, and drew the basic lines of the human history.

The Star and the Propeller

So do not get me wrong if I refer to two empirical thoughts each time someone says “car” in front of me. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? I guess yes and I guess that Mercedes-Benz or its Silver Star and BMW with the white propeller in the blue skies are our winners of the day. These two brands might not be the creators of the automotive industry and for sure not the only to contribute to this domain. However what the Mrecs and BMW had presented to this word is the soul and glamour. They made such fragile world more robust and more reliable. These two giants had twisted the fabric of the industry to unimaginable extremes. Excuse my subjectivity, but think of it this way: in the far upcoming future, what archeological excavation will discover, is neither my TOSHIBA laptop nor a small microwave, they may even fail to discover fossils. One thing is for sure, archeologist will be amazed to discover a rusty S-class or a 7-series buried deep under the soil and in which they will for sure find a skeleton, the smiling, full of joy skeleton of the late driver.

Mercedes-Benz-CL63 AMG 2011

Now that it’s clear how ground breaking these two brands can be you expect me to proceed by long talk about the S-class and the 7-series, comparing them and putting them in a wrestling ring and watch them fight till a total loss of one of them! Well it’s not my intension; I don’t want to discuss these models and I am not going to allow a brand fight, not today at least. Allow me to bring your attention to two models, which we take for granted when it comes to a coffee talk and which impresses the eyes and hearts when we encounter on the road or in the mall parking: the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG and The BMW M6.

Allow me to introduce you to …

What’s inside

Let me start by the CL, well at the first glance you can tell that this machine is the definition of beauty and harmony in the automotive dictionary. A 2- door, a yacht interior, and an AMG; the new CL has it’s arced appearance filled with outlines pointing to one unique term: “Success”. It’s very successful when it comes to marking its presence, very successful when it comes to seating you comfortably in the AMG or Designo “bucket couches” and very successful in being a 63AMG, with a high-tech degree of simplicity and that can pick up 0 to 100km/hr in only 4.4seconds. and since the picture can say a thousand words I will proceed to display some quick numbers and hope that your computers are fastened and fit to absorb the power this car will be delivering.

Our German angels had loaded the car with a 5.5 Litters biturbo engine or if we want to think “nerd” wise; the engine has a displacement of 5461cc, this is less than the previous 6.3 naturaly aspirated engine that had a 6208cc.This shift allows the car to produce and amazing 563 HP enough to bypass your brain speed of response and 664lb-ft of torque, enough to crush any thought you might have while driving, leaving you in a “drive only” state of mind and smile while doing it. Also the same shift enabled the car to be more environmentally friendly than its previous version; first by reducing fuel consumption, although delivering more HP and torque, by 27%. And second by reducing CO2 emissions by 30%. And if you think that’s high-tech try testing the combination of noise, handling and maneuverability as this car gives you the impression that it’s running on cushions of air meanwhile producing lion roars due to savage transmission response coordinating the power of the 5.5Litters biturbo with the ground it’s rocketing across along with a very compatible traction management! And the new engine seems very far away of having the oil vapor vacuum suction problem the old 6.3 was having. Everything till now is going great in the AMG labs and halls, until I don’t know who thought that let’s add an additional0.2 to have ourselves a CL 6.5 that can do 0 to 100 in but with a V12 6.0 Litters Biturbo and now allow me to ask? Dear fellow Benz engineer are you aiming for faster road car or a lunar space shuttle?

I guess the CL is a sufficient dose of beauty and power for one day and for one article so it’s wise to leave BMW’s share till after your brain recovers completely.

Dynamic and all over the place
