The Honda Civic Type R is the new FWD record holder at the Nürburgring

April 25, 2017 – The previous-generation Honda Civic Type R was a seriously quick car as it held the Nürburgring front-wheel drive record for a short while before getting dethroned by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport.

However, the Japanese sports car has now managed to reclaim the title as the 2017 model recently lapped the Nürburgring Norschleife in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds, which makes it 5.5 seconds quicker than the VW and 7 seconds quicker than the model it replaces.

The new Civic Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 320 PS with peak torque of 400 Nm. It comes with a manual six-speed gearbox.
