This Volkswagen Camper has a 530hp Porsche engine

November 5, 2016 – If you thought the Toyota GT86 drift car with a V8 from a Ferrari 458 was cool, wait till you see this Porsche-powered Volkswagen Camper racing on the Monza circuit.

It’s called the Volkswagen T1 Race-Taxi and it hides an air-cooled Porsche 993 Turbo 3.6-litre flat-six engine producing 530 horsepower and 757 Nm of torque. The brakes are also from a 993 and the transmission is out of a 996 GT3. The chassis, which rides on a custom suspension, was strengthened with a roll cage.

All of these modifications help the Volkswagen Camper keep up with a lot of sportscars on Italy’s Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which is home to the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
