Toyota Partners with Haas for F1 Return After 15 Years

Toyota returns to Formula 1 as Haas F1 Team’s technical partner, bringing expertise from its Gazoo Racing division to support the team’s development.

Toyota is making a comeback to Formula 1 through a new technical partnership with the Haas F1 Team, marking its return to the sport for the first time since 2009. The agreement designates Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) as the official technical partner of Haas, with the collaboration beginning at the United States Grand Prix.

Under this multi-year deal, TGR will share its expertise, resources, and technical knowledge with Haas, providing crucial support for the sport’s smallest team. In exchange, Haas will offer its own technical insights. This partnership provides Haas with a much-needed financial boost while allowing Toyota to contribute its manufacturing and design capabilities.

Despite this new collaboration, Haas will continue as a Ferrari customer team, purchasing parts from the Italian manufacturer. Toyota’s return to Formula 1 is significant, as the automaker last participated with its own works team, which achieved 13 podium finishes and a best result of fourth place in the constructors’ championship before exiting the sport in 2009.

Toyota Gazoo Racing currently competes in various motorsports series globally, including the FIA World Rally Championship, World Endurance Championship, Nürburgring 24 Hours, and Dakar Rally. Although the partnership does not include Toyota as an engine supplier, Gazoo Racing Company president Tomoya Takahashi emphasized the importance of the agreement. “By collaborating with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the pinnacle of motorsports, we aim to develop our drivers, engineers, and mechanics,” Takahashi said.
