January 22, 2015 – Toyota has remained the world’s largest automaker, the Japanese automaker selling 10.23 million vehicles in 2014 – a three percent increase compared to 2013.
Toyota Motor Co. beat Volkswagen AG of Germany and General Motors Co. to the sales crown for the third consecutive year.
Volkswagen AG, which hit the 10 million milestone for the first time, shipped a total of 10.14 million vehicles – a 4.2 percent increase, and analysts are now predicting that the German company will take the lead in 2015.
General Motors was the third most successful automaker; the Americans managed to sell 9.92 million vehicles worldwide. It is worth mentioning that GM was the biggest car manufacturer for almost eight decades until it was knocked off the top spot by Toyota in 2008.
