January 28, 2016 – Toyota has remained the world’s leading car manufacturer for the fourth consecutive year.
The Japanese giant sold 10.15 million cars in 2015, including vehicles from Daihatsu and Hino Motors, and despite suffering from a 0.8% drop in sales compared to 2014, the number was enough to keep it in the sales lead.
Volkswagen Group (including MAN and Scania), on the other hand, sold 9.9 million vehicles – a 2% decrease compared to 2014; the German group is expected to suffer further sales drop in 2016 due to the recent diesel scandal.
General Motors rounded out the top 3 with 9.8 million vehicles sold, which represents a 0.2% increase compared to 2014.
The Renault-Nissan alliance managed to deliver 8.22 million vehicles, which puts it in fourth place, ahead of fifth-placed Hyundai that sold 8.01 million units.
