Toyota’s Gazoo Racing Highlights at 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon

Discover Toyota’s thrilling Gazoo Racing lineup, including the GR Yaris, GR Yaris M concept, and exclusive performance parts at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.

At the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota is showcasing some of the most exciting models from its Gazoo Racing lineup, including three distinct versions of the GR Yaris that are sure to get motorsport enthusiasts’ hearts racing.

One of the highlights is a specially modified GR Yaris, built to tackle the Nürburgring’s Langstrecken Serie. Prepared under Akio Toyoda’s personal direction, this high-performance hatchback is primed for intense competition, taking on rivals like Porsche Caymans and French hot hatches. It’s fitted with Toyota’s latest performance-focused eight-speed automatic transmission, creating an exhilarating sport compact experience.

However, even more thrilling is the GR Yaris M concept, which features a unique mid-engine layout. This car features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a departure from the usual three-cylinder setup in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla. Designed for Japan’s Super Taikyu racing series, the Yaris M is being developed to push the limits of performance, testing its reliability and capabilities with each race. While a mid-engine GR Corolla may not be in the cards anytime soon, the new turbocharged engine could appear in future Toyota models.

Completing the trio is the GR Yaris Aero Package, billed as a concept vehicle but already equipped with available aftermarket parts, including a dynamic rear-wing that adjusts its angle to reduce drag, much like Formula 1’s DRS system. Also on display are additional Gazoo Racing upgrades, such as software improvements for the GR86 and competition parts for the GR Yaris. Toyota is also offering new parts for classic models like the AE86 and Supra, further showing their commitment to performance across generations.

The Tokyo Auto Salon is not just about showcasing future tech—Akio Toyoda’s collection of vintage 1960s cars, including a ‘62 MG Midget and a classic Corolla, adds a nostalgic touch, reminding us that Toyota’s passion for motorsport and driving enthusiasm is alive and well. Whether they’re focusing on cutting-edge EVs or high-performance petrol-powered machines, Toyota continues to cater to car lovers who crave excitement behind the wheel.
