Vettel gets five-place grid drop for gearbox change

April 29, 2016 – Sebastian Vettel will get a five-place grid penalty for the Russian Grand Prix following a gearbox change ahead of qualifying.

Despite being second fastest overall in the afternoon session on Friday, the German had a frustrating time when his car stopped on track with a suspected electronic problem after a switch issue put the car in to shutdown mode.

But to add a further blow to his bid to deliver a first victory of the season, Vettel has been told that he will need a new gearbox for this event. This will mean he takes a five-place grid penalty at Sochi.
