Volkswagen has dropped its appeal against Suzuki over the use of the GTi moniker on the sporty version of the Swift hatchback, the Swift GTi. The German car manufacturer simply gave up trying to win the case.
It all began in 2004 when the Volkswagen Group filed a lawsuit against an application granted to Suzuki to use the GTi nameplate. Last March, the European Union stated that there isn’t any likelihood of confusion between Volkswagen’s GTI and Suzuki’s GTi, therefore sided with the Japanese brand.
A recent report published by British news agency, Reuters, confirmed that Volkswagen Group has abandoned the appeal against Suzuki.
