Volkswagen reveals 2014 Golf GTI

Volkswagen has released the first images and full specifications of the all-new 2014 Golf GTI, before the car’s public debut at the Geneva International Motor Show next week. The hothatch, and for the first time, will be available with two power levels: the standard GTI or the GTI Performance.

The new GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 216 hp, while the ‘special’ GTI Performance offers a boosted maximum power of 226 hp. Both GTI versions develop a maximum torque of 350 Nm and can reach a 250 km/h top speed. The GTI sprints from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, 0.1 seconds slower than its more powerful sibling.

A Stop-Start system and manual 6-speed gearbox are standard on both GTI versions; average fuel consumption is 6.4/6.5 liter per 100 km with the optional 6-speed DSG transmission – an 18 per cent improvement compared to the previous model.

The GTI is easily recognizable thanks to its traditional red-painted brake calipers, two chrome tailpipes and a sport suspension. The exterior also comes with 17-inch “Brooklyn” GTI wheels, special side sills, a diffuser and smoked LED rear lights.

Inside, the cabin features sport seats in tartan pattern, a black roofliner and red ambience lighting. The car also offers GTI traits such as a sport steering wheel, GTI gear shift grip and instrument cluster, special trim strips and stainless steel pedals and foot support.
