Volkswagen to run two WRC Polos in 2013

After Kris Hissen, former Volkswagen Motorsport director, had spoken of running five Polos during Volkswagen’s WRC debut in 2013; current team director Jost Capito announced that only two factory Polo R WRCs will contest the Word Rally Championship next season.

“It is possible to get even a third car at the start, but only if everything works the way we imagine.” Capito told German magazine Rallye.

“There is already a growing new generation of young talented drivers. An example is Andreas Mikkelsen, he is a great talent in IRC. We are currently working with Andreas Mikkelsen, Kevin Abbring and Sepp Wiegand, but we will not take three drivers at the same time, one-by-one instead.”

Capito denied rumors linking Jari-Matti Latvala to a seat alongside Sebastien Ogier, saying: “The first car is driven by Sebastien Ogier. For the second car, we can not say anything.”
