Volkswagen used four different cheat devices for 7 years

October 21, 2015 – More and more is being revealed about Volkswagen’s dieselgate, as a recent report by Reuters says the German manufacturer developed four different devices for illegal use in their diesel vehicles.

The different versions of the defeat software have been used on at least four engine types for the past seven years, according to the report, which suggests that Volkswagen’s deception could be bigger than the company has admitted to so far. Moreover, industry experts claim that the several iterations of the defeat device required a lot of optimizing and a lot of work, and it was the doing of a group of engineers.

Volkswagen’s stock market value has dropped by 25% after the scandal and according to Credit Suisse the dieselgate affair will cost them anywhere between €23 to €78 billion ($26 to 88 billion).
