Controversy Turns Official as the FIA announces Al Attiyah Champion

Will Abu Dhabi Racing commit to the Middle East Rally Championship in 2015 after Al-Attiyah’s Dubai Rally victory announcement?

In the wake of Nasser Al Attiyah Team’s unofficial announcement, and if the decision turns out to be in favor of Al-Attiyah without any hard evidence, will Abu Dhabi Racing and Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi commit to the Middle East Rally Championship in 2015, or will they pull out altogether?

Earlier this evening, Nasser Al Attiyah was unofficially announced the 2014 Dubai International Rally winner and, as a result, the 2014 Middle East Rally Championship for the 10th time in his career.

However, the announcement on Nasser Al Attiyah Team’s official Facebook page is yet to be officially confirmed by the FIA and it has not been backed up by any evidence or concrete facts. It remains unclear how Khalid Al Qassimi unofficially lost his race win and championship title, which casts huge doubts over the decision itself.

Rumor has it that Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi had cut several corners during the Dubai Rally, which gave him an unfair advantage over Al Attiyah, but there is nothing thus far that proves that this is indeed the case, therefore, we can only wait for the official FIA announcement.
