January 20, 2017 – Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville maintained his lead in the 2017 edition of the Monte Carlo Rally as he collected three stages victories on the second day of the event.
M-Sport’s Ott Tanak went quickest in today’s opening stage (SS3), but Neuville hit back in the following three stages by setting the fastest time and thus extending his lead to 33 seconds. Sebastien Ogier stole 2nd place overall from Tanak by winning the day’s last two stages.
Neuville now leads Ogier by exactly 45.1 seconds, while Tanak drops to 3rd overall and is just 0.3 seconds behind his M-Sport team-mate. Toyota driver Jari-Matti Latvala is 4th overall and more than 2 minutes behind the leader.
Front-left suspension damage on Kris Meeke’s Citroen put him out of the rally.
