BMW has officially unveiled the 2014 X5, the third generation of the famous Sports Activity Vehicle.
The new X5 looks more like an evolution of the current generation with redesigned rear and front fascias featuring a set of new head- and tail-lights inspired by the F30 BMW 3 Series; the same applies to the interior which saw only small modifications such as a larger LCD screen.
Power on the new X5 is provided by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine with 300 hp on the rear-wheel drive sDrive35i and its four-wheel drive counterpart, the xDrive35i; the V8-powered xDrive50i will use a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 which puts out 444 hp. All models will be equipped with BMW’s latest 8-speed automatic transmission.
The new X5 xDrive35i will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6.2 seconds, compared to 4.9 seconds on the xDrive50i. BMW says the new X5 is up to 90kg lighter than its predecessor.
Sales of the new model are expected to kick off starting November 2013.
