AMG GT XX Concept Reveals Mercedes EV Future

The Concept AMG GT XX previews Mercedes-AMG’s bold electric future. This sleek four-door coupe introduces AMG’s first standalone EV, expected to launch next year. It’s built on a custom electric platform combining steel, aluminum, and carbon composites, which will also support a new SUV and potentially a hypercar.

Visually, the GT XX blends styling cues from past AMG concepts like the Vision AMG and Vision One-Eleven, along with nods to the iconic 1960s C111. Its bold Sunset Beam orange paint, electroluminescent side panels, and sculpted windscreen reflect its concept car status, while also previewing a production model meant to replace the GT 4-Door.

Standing at 5.2 meters long, it features distinctive vertical headlights with built-in speakers for pedestrian alerts, six retro-style circular rear lights, and functional aerodynamic enhancements. The drag coefficient is an impressive 0.20, thanks to active aero features like a dynamic rear brake and adaptive underfloor vanes.

One megawatt of power—around 1,340bhp—drives the GT XX. An 800V electrical architecture, paired with lightweight axial flux motors from Mercedes-owned Yasa, delivers speed and efficiency. The tri-motor setup, including two rear-mounted motors and one front, allows intelligent torque control and optimal performance.

Mercedes claims over 223mph top speed and 0–124mph in five seconds. Charging is equally advanced. The GT XX can reach up to 850kW, potentially adding 250 miles in just five minutes. While public chargers at that level don’t exist yet, Mercedes is working with Alpitronic to develop matching infrastructure. For now, 350kW fast charging is already enabled.

Inside, the GT XX’s design centers on visible technology and weight-saving materials. The interior features a structural crossbeam reminiscent of a traditional engine bay. High-voltage cables and carbon-fiber seat shells emphasize its electric identity. The Labfiber seat material is made from recycled racing tires and plant proteins, offering a leather-like feel with sustainable credentials.

The stripped-down cockpit includes a Formula One-inspired steering yoke connected to a steer-by-wire system. Fabric loops replace door handles, while checkered patterns and a crackle-finish center console create a motorsport aesthetic.

While some styling details may change, the technology showcased in the GT XX will enter production. This concept represents AMG’s renewed push into electrification—with performance and innovation at the core.
