Colton Herta Joins Cadillac F1 As Test Driver

Cadillac has named American IndyCar star Colton Herta as its official Formula 1 test driver for the 2026 season. The announcement comes shortly after confirming Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez as race drivers for Cadillac’s debut F1 campaign.

Herta, the youngest IndyCar race winner in history, brings a strong record with nine victories and 16 pole positions in 116 starts. He’s also achieved class wins at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2019 and 2022, and an overall win at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2024.

To qualify for an FIA Super Licence, Herta is expected to compete in Formula 2 next season. This step could pave the way for a future F1 race seat.

Herta expressed excitement about the opportunity, calling it a major step toward his lifelong goal of racing in Formula One.

He previously raced in Europe, earning victories in Euroformula Open and a podium at Brands Hatch in British F3. He also tested a McLaren F1 car in 2022.

Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon praised Herta’s speed and maturity, saying his experience in American motorsport adds valuable insight as the team prepares for its F1 entry.
