Oscar Piastri won a rain-affected Belgian Grand Prix after overtaking McLaren teammate Lando Norris on the first racing lap. The race started 90 minutes late due to heavy rain and began behind the safety car. Piastri made his move at the Les Combes chicane after closely following Norris through Eau Rouge.
As the track dried, both McLaren drivers switched to slick tyres. Norris opted for hard tyres, hoping to avoid a second stop, while Piastri chose mediums and pitted one lap earlier. Though initially unsure if his tyres would last, Piastri managed his pace and preserved the lead, winning by 3.4 seconds.
This victory marks Piastri’s sixth of the season and extends his championship lead by 16 points heading into the Hungarian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc finished third after holding off Max Verstappen, who took fourth and now trails Piastri by 81 points in the standings.
George Russell finished fifth for Mercedes, ahead of Alex Albon and Lewis Hamilton, who gained several positions after starting from the pit lane. Despite late pressure from Norris, Piastri held strong with a smart mix of pace and tyre strategy, delivering another confident performance in changing conditions at Spa-Francorchamps.
